salem wasn't alone
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In 1692, the New World was rocked by accusations of witchraft. These accusations were not unfounded. Of the twenty-six people held to trial, none were anything but human. Some of the others accused however did have magical powers.
These trials in Salem, Massachusetts lit a blaze of fear in America's magical community. A generation after the Salem witch trials, a North American Witchcraft Act was established. It stated that all accused witches and their descendents, along with any suspected witches in the future, were to be evicted from the country.
In the year 1721, the Bermuda Isle (often just called The Bermuda by its natives) was found just off the Connecticut Coast. Named after the Bermuda Islands for its intended purpose, the Bermuda soon became home to all those evicted by the North American Witchcraft Act.
Within a decade, 'witches' from other nations joined them and the population grew from hundreds to thousands. To the world, the Bermuda was a haven for those who'd been persecuted. But the clergy were closer than they realized.
Sure, some of these 'witches' were falsely accused, but by the end of the eighteenth century, these mere mortals had been bred out by the overwhelming number of true witches. The witches of the Bermuda lived in solitude, forging alliances and blood feuds for generations. Until ten years ago.
In 2000, the Bermuda Isle, which had always been a favorite vacation spot for the wealthy, attained world-wide fame when a large corporation decided to move their main office to the island. With the new sky rises and office buildings came an influx of "normal" humans. These mortals found themselves in the middle of a magical war that had been raging for centuries. The Bermuda covens attempted to hide their magic from these mortals at first, but they were set in their ways. The fighting continued, despite the new arrivals.
Nowadays, our little island has been transformed into a booming metropolis. The mortals keep to themselves mostly and the witches continue to fight in the sidelines, much like the gangs of New York and Chicago.

the bermuda isle, grand tour
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Taken a walk around the Bermuda lately? It changed from the little pilgrim town it was back in the eighteenth century. Take the tour...
downtown bermuda
Downtown Bermuda is located right in the middle of the island. Skyscrapers and office buildings abound here at the heart of our little civilization. The wide streets are always bustling. Just try to steer clear of the alleys after the sun goes down. You never know who- or what- you might find.
the bluffs
Located along the jagged, cliff strewn northern coast of the island is the most modern part of town. It's the metropolitan sector of the island, heavily occupied by the wealthy young adults who want lives separate from those of their parents. Many small, chic shops have sprung up around here in recent years.
the coast
The southern coast of the Bermuda is the only place you'll find smooth, sandy beaches (except for the occassional hidden cove on the northern side). The main features of the Coast are the ever-growing college and the island's boardwalk. Right beside the beach, the Boardwalk boasts many great restaurants and tourist shops.
old bermuda town
The original town settlement of Bermuda is located east of Inner Bermuda. A quaint pilgrim village, this section has been forgotten by the residents for the most part. It persists mainly to serve as a tourist attraction. Stepping into this part of town is like stepping back into the past. Very old school.

the bermuda isle, ancestry
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Though the Bermuda has changed in the three centuries since its inception, its residents have not. Here's the low-down on the covens that have formed our not-so-quiet little island community...
blakewood
The Blakewood Coven takes its name from Tabitha Blakewood, the first matriarch. Her family joined with other witches who had powers dealing with perception, either their own or others. Blakewood witches are deemed psychic and their powers include altering their own perception to see into the future, detect faults and viewing other locations, among other things. Some Blakewoods are able to manipulate the perception of others with powers like telepathy, illusions and dream-weaving. This coven has a strong rivalry with both the Ames and Kelsey covens.
proctor
This coven formed from witches that possess the ability to alter the physical body. Sometimes referred to as muscles, Proctors are able to do amazing things with their own bodies. Some are extremely fast, strong or have enhanced senses. Others are able to affect the bodies of others, stilting their breathing or manipulating the blood in their veins. The Proctor coven has a deep hatred for the Kelsey coven, stemming from a property dispute that led to a battle. Once the Kelseys set themselves against the Blakewoods, the Proctors approached the Blakewoods to form an alliance.
ames
Ames witches are extremely powerful. Their powers do not deal with the intricacies of our own world. They possess mystical abilites that affect the world and others in various ways. Powers range from disintigration to telekinesis and life-force absorption. Ames are power hungry, trying to gain more magical and political sway at all times. This greed has set them against the Blakewoods and Proctors.
kelsey
The Kelseys are the "good guys gone bad" of the Bermuda Isle. These elemental witches are able to manipulate the forces of the world. Some are pyrokinetic and others are able to control larger elements of nature, such as gravity and the weather. The Kelseys allied themselves with the Ames after a romance between a Kelsey and Blakewood ended in the Kelsey's demise. Their longest rivalry has been with the Proctors.
